General Information & Overview

What is Memory Air®?

Memory Air® is an innovation based upon the latest science of Olfactory Enrichment, which shows that scientifically-selected odorants —delivered in a specific sequence — directly stimulate the brain’s main highway to your memory center.  Now, with this revolutionary, convenient scent delivery system, you can improve your brain function in ways that aromatherapy, supplements, drugs, or computer games can’t come close to. Memory Air® is the perfect self-care for your brain.

What is the science behind Olfactory Enrichment?

The science of Olfactory Enrichment is a fundamental breakthrough discovered by Dr. Michael Leon, Professor Emeritus, Neurobiology and Learning, University of California Irvine, along with a group of eminent scientists around the world.  Named one of the top 2% of scientists in the world, Dr. Leon discovered that when the olfactory system is stimulated in a very specific way, your brain function and memory are improved. To get these brain benefits, a variety of scents must be delivered consistently every day. So Dr. Leon developed Memory Air®, a device that does the whole process for you automatically, while you sleep!

What are the most commonly reported benefits of Memory Air®?

People using Memory Air® notice that they have fewer problems with their memory and less foggy thinking. In addition, they say that they can smell things better than before, and that they feel energized. They often rediscover themselves, having less fear of the future.

If I have good olfactory stimulation, do I need Memory Air®?

Most people do not have an optimal amount of olfactory stimulation in their everyday lives.  Why? Because we live in relatively odor-free environments. Aromatherapy has limitations in the number of scents you’re able to be exposed to. But science proves that Memory Air®, with it’s very high level and variety of scents, all automatically dispensed, truly challenges your olfactory system. This improves your memory via the “superhighway” to the brain.

What is the difference between Memory Air® and aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is based upon the belief that a single scent achieves a specific action for your health. By comparison, Memory Air® is based upon the proven science of constant and novel stimulation of your olfactory receptors. Exposure to this high number of diverse stimulations has been proven to remarkably improve your memory.

Can’t I do this on my own without Memory Air® by sniffing many scents from their bottles?

Technically, yes, but to get the same benefits delivered by Memory Air® would require a least a couple of hours each day (plus, you would have to remember to do it every day!) By comparison, Memory Air® requires no work at all with nothing to remember.

Can I use a diffuser and hand switch different scents and get the same results?

No. Science shows that mixing different odors in a room actually creates one big “soup” of scents. To get full benefits, your olfactory system requires a rest time between odors.

Your Memory Air® has been engineered to allow your nose to rest between odors, even while exposing you to up to 80 scents per night, all while you sleep.

This engineering is different from any other technology for memory and cognitive improvement.

How do I tell real science from junk science?

First, examine their literature by noting the number of articles they’ve been cited in by well respected, peer-reviewed scientific journals. If there’s only one or two, that’s just not enough.

Peer-reviewed journals are journals where a renowned panel of scientists review an article looking for mistakes in design and deciding whether it’s worthy science. They’re your panel of experts to protect you from junk science. (Junk science is often done by websites to convince you to buy a “miracle cure,” but would never qualify for a peer-reviewed journal.)

Then, look to see if the scientists come from a reputable institution. If you haven’t heard of it, it could be a for-profit company staging a study posing as a clinical trial.  This is a sign of intentional and misleading junk science.

Also, if the only “proof” are testimonials with claims to “cure” many things, it’s likely junk science.

By comparison, Memory Air® is based upon thousands of published research papers from respected institutions about its underlying science of Environmental Enrichment.

Memory Air® was also designed under the guidance of Dr. Michael Leon, Professor Emeritus of Neurobiology and Learning at the University of California Irvine. Dr. Leon is ranked in the top 2% of all scientists in the world by a Stanford School of Medicine study.

This “sounds too good to be true.” Is it?

20 peer-reviewed, published studies and 2 meta-analyses by expert scientists confirm that the underlying science is true. The researchers all come from high-level universities and the science has been duplicated and published in well-respected journals.  It doesn’t get better than that.  This is not “science” created just to market something. In addition, founder Dr. Michael Leon is ranked in the top 2% of all scientists in the world by a Stanford study.

How big is Memory Air®? Will it take up a lot of space?

Memory Air® is designed to take up a small space.  It measures only 5-1/2” wide and 5-1/2” deep, a small footprint.

Is Memory Air® battery operated or a plug in?

The device is a plug in only.

Setup & Troubleshooting

Will I need to read instructions or watch the instructional video when I set up my Memory Air®?

Yes.

What if I forgot to push the Start button?

No problem.  Simply push the Start button the next time you go to sleep.

What should I do if Memory Air® is not operating correctly?

First, unplug your Memory Air®, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back in. Then push the Start button once when you go to sleep. It should operate properly again.

If you have not changed your refill when a Scent Belt refill has been sent, please change it now and press the Start button once as you go to sleep.

If it still does not function well, simply reach out to us on our Contact Page.

Do I have to reset my Memory Air® for Daylight Savings Time?

Yes. Just press the Start button just before you go to bed after the time change.

Do I have to reset my Memory Air® after a power outage?

Yes. Just press the Start button as you go to bed.

What if I knock the device over?

The device is designed to guard against leaks.  While we cannot guarantee there will be no leaks, if you do knock it over accidently, then simply place it upright again.

If there are leaks, remove the refill and check if the refill is leaking.  If the refill has leaked, discard the refill, clean the device with a dry cloth and contact us on our contact page for a replacement refill.

What happens if Memory Air® stops working or gets clogged?

This is highly unlikely.  But if it does happen, just contact us on our contact page for instructions.  We’ll get you back on track ASAP.

Can I use Memory Air® with my current medications?

As with any new therapeutic regimen, you may want to consult with your physician.  There are no known medication interactions with Memory Air®.

Does the US Food & Drug Administration have warnings about some memory supplements?

What if I’m allergic or sensitive to certain scents?

Usage Guidance (Daily Use & Placement)

How does Memory Air® work?

Memory Air® is designed to start dispensing your therapy one hour after you go to sleep.  On your first night with Memory Air®, you simply push the Start button one time when you go to bed, and then you’re done!

The Start button does not need to be pushed every night.  Memory Air® will remember when you go to bed and do everything automatically.

Then when your monthly replacement Scent Belt arrives at your home, just remove the old belt and replace it with the new one. You do not have to push the Start button again.

On which side of the bed should I place my Memory Air®?

You should place the device on the side of the bed you face while you sleep. So, if you sleep on your right side, then place the device on your left side of the bed. If you sleep on your left side, you should place your device on the right side of the bed.  If you predominantly sleep on your back, either side will do.

Does Memory Air cover two people in the same bed?

Memory Air® can be used by two people at once, as long as both can feel a slight air flow from the device on their face while in bed. Air flow may be disrupted by other fans, obstructions near the face, or nasal congestion or blockage, which can reduce effectiveness.

When is the best time to use Memory Air®? While sleeping? Working? Watching videos? Reading?

We highly recommend that you use Memory Air® while you are asleep to make sure to maximize the benefits. Since you’re not moving around, as you do during the day, you won’t miss any of our brain building scents. But of course, it does work during the day as well.

Can I put Memory Air® anywhere in my room?

Most people put Memory Air® on their nightstand. Closer to you is better, especially if your room has open windows, doors, or circulating air from an air conditioner or fan.

The device covers a 6’ distance with olfactory enrichment.

I’m a light sleeper. Is Memory Air® quiet?

Memory Air® is designed to be so quiet that you shouldn’t hear it.  It’s designed to go on only after you’ve been asleep for an hour.  If you do somehow hear your Memory Air®, then simply move it one foot further away.  Any noise should disappear.

How long will it take to feel results?

Results from Memory Air® can vary. It can take up to two to three months to notice an improvement in your memory.  And often this happens without you noticing, as memory improvement is much more difficult to detect than memory loss. After some time, you’ll discover that you aren’t struggling to remember things, to find words, names, possessions, etc.  Things go more smoothly and your fear about losing your memory starts to go away. That’s how you know it’s working.  Many people also start to smell things more easily.  And of course, we consistently test your memory so you can see your results!

What if I don’t like how some of the scents smell?

No problem, because the science has shown that when you sleep, you don’t notice any odors at all. You’ll just sleep through them.

Do I have to do any work?

Unlike memory games and supplements, with Memory Air® you don’t have to do a thing. Simply unpack the device, install a scent belt, and plug it in. Then, on the first night before you go to sleep, push the start button.  That’s it.

A replacement Scent Belt will be shipped automatically each month. Open the door on your Memory Air®, discard the old belt and pop in the new one. No work!

What if I go away and my Memory Air® runs dry?

If you go away for a while and the refill runs dry while you are gone, simply change the scent belt on your Memory Air® when you return home.  No harm will come to your device.

The scent belt is designed to last 1-2 days past the 30-day limit. To ensure your Memory Air® always operates at peak performance, you should change the automatically-delivered refill the day you receive it.

Refills & Maintenance

How many scents are in each monthly refill?

There are 40 essential oils in each Memory Air® refill. They scents cycle twice per night to deliver the precise amount of challenge that your olfactory system needs.

What specific scents are in each cassette?

The specific Memory Air® odorants are specially selected by our staff of neuroscientists to be presented in a specific order while you sleep. To maximize the benefits, these pleasant-smelling scents will change over time.

What if there are scents still left in my refill after 30 days? Can I continue to use it until they’re all gone?

There might be small amounts of scents left in the refill when you receive a replacement Scent Belt refill. This is normal.

To make sure your Memory Air® is operating at full strength, simply replace the existing scent belt with the automatically-delivered refill every month.

How often does a refill need to be changed? Is there an indicator?

The refill needs to be changed every 30 days. There is no indicator. Past 30 days, the active ingredients diminish and will not be as effective as a fresh refill. We automatically ship you a replacement every 30 days to keep your device at full strength. Upon receiving it, just open the device door, remove the existing refill and replace it with the new one. It takes just a few seconds.

Does Memory Air® have a filter?

There is no filter in the device.
